Fairy Tale Series

The artist is asking profound questions about growing up in this series - is a child's world really only candy-coloured? Is childhood always equated with carefree and innocence? Children long to grow up quickly, dreaming of being free from their parents' nagging and endless homework, and fantasizing about the freedom to travel the world when they grow up. They cry and rebel along the way, and so they mature, living in their own ‘little world’ with new worries. They try to imitate adults, but seem to forget that every adult was once a child. The artist, who spent two years creating 1,001 paintings, drew inspiration from the ‘Thousand and One Nights’ stories that accompanied her childhood, and felt the sincerity, kindness and endless curiosity about the world in them. In her creations, she uses a childlike little girl as a representative, who is like a mirror reflecting the artist's imagination of her true self. We can be imperfect, just like each of the children in the artist's work, who all shed tears like candy. At the end of the series, the little girl in the 1001st painting finally smiles as she embraces her imperfections. The artist hopes that everyone can find their childhood selves in these works, open their hearts in joy and happiness, accepting themselves and all the beauty and imperfections in life as we grow together.
